Angels of the Grave (Munkar and Nakir)

The life that begins with death and continues until the resurrection is called life in the grave. Life in the grave is also called "Barzakh Life" or "Barzakh Realm", which means "barrier" between the world and the Hereafter. In the Qur'an it is stated:“...and behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected.” (Mu’minun, 23/100)
In various verses of the Qur'an, life in the grave, which is the first stop of the Hereafter, is mentioned, but detailed information about the nature of it is not given. The Realm of Barzakh is mentioned not only in verses but also in hadiths. In a hadith, Prophet Muhammad (saw) says, “Indeed the grave is the first stage among the stages of the Hereafter. So if one is saved from it, then what comes after it is easier than it. And if one is not saved from it, then what comes after it is worse than it.” (Tirmidhi, Zuhd, 5) In another verse, death is stated as the start of the afterlife: “The grave is but a garden from the gardens of Paradise, or a pit from the pits of the Fire..” (Tirmidhi, Qiyamah, 27)
When a person dies, two angels come to him and ask various questions. It is reported in the hadiths that these are two angels named Munkar and Nakir. When a person was put in the grave after death, it is narrated that Munkar and Nakir come and ask some questions such as, "Who is your Lord?" and "What is your religion?" It has been stated that believers and righteous people will give correct answers to these questions, that they will be shown Paradise in return, while unbelievers will not be able to answer these questions correctly and that Hell will be shown to them. (Abu Dawud, Sunna, 27)
