Could the Source of the Qur'an Be the Arab Society of That Day?
It is a futile effort to seek the source of the Qur'an in Arab society. Because the people of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) were idolaters. If the source of Islam was this society, it would be built on values compatible with it. However, the Prophet Muhammad (saw) fought against shirk, ignorance and khurafa in this society throughout His life and tried to purify people from them.
Again, it is a futile effort to seek the source of the Qur'an in the Jewish and Christian culture of that day. Because even though the Messenger of Allah (saw) met some Jewish and Christian religious scholars before His prophethood, these meetings were very short.
The Messenger of Allah (saw) met with some Jewish religious leaders after His prophethood. However, it was the religious leaders in question who also asked questions and learned at these meetings. The Prophet Muhammad (saw) was the one who taught, warned and gave good news. In addition, heavy criticisms of the Jews and Christians in the Qur'an eliminate the doubts that they are the source of it.
