Furqan
Another name for the Qur'an is "Furqan". (Baqarah, 2/185) The word Furqan means "to separate two things". This word describes one of the important features of the Qur'an. It evaluates the actions of man as true-superstitious, right-wrong, good deed-sin, good-bad and beautiful-ugly.
All revelations had the feature of "furqan", therefore they provided a unique guidance to man. The moral and human values they brought have been passed down from generation to generation throughout history. In this sense, the legacy of revelation has been the main source in the formation of virtues such as right, law, cooperation, self-sacrifice. If divine religions had not distinguished between right and wrong, sin and goodness, beautiful and ugly, how would human beings achieve this? How would the ethical values system be formed in this case? Mankind would be faced with complete uncertainty, and perhaps the common values in social life would never have been formed.
Man lives in a world where countless ideas, ideologies and lifestyles try to be effective. In the face of such situation, it becomes difficult for him to make his choice and find his own way. Therefore, he needs a source of information that he can trust with confidence. Otherwise, he will either become a victim of his own selfish ambitions and whims or turn into an object driven by fashion trends.
As a person reads the Qur'an, he moves away from doubts and a clarity occurs in his thoughts. The person gains a depth of vision in comprehending the inner face of complex events. He gets rid of indecision in his relations with his Lord (swt), with himself and other people. He becomes an individual who acts with solid standards to which he attaches with confidence and sincerity.
