Hajj is Becoming a Fardh
In the ninth year of the Prophet's (saw) migration from Mecca to Madina, hajj became a fardh to the people with the following verse:“And [due] to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House - for whoever is able to find thereto a way.” (Ali 'Imran, 3/97) Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (saw) read a khutbah to his companions, and ordered: “O people, Allah has made Hajj obligatory for you; so perform Hajj.” (Muslim, Hajj, 73) After this year, it is prohibited for non-believers to get close to the Masjid al-Haram (Tawbah, 9/28) and circumambulate the Ka’bah being naked. (Bukhari, Tafsir, (Tawbah) 2) Upon the conquest of Mecca, the idols at the Ka’bah were removed and hajj was purified from the polytheistic elements.
Prophet Muhammad (saw) charged Abu Bakr as the“Amir al-Hajj (Commander of the Pilgrimage)” to make Muslims perform hajj in the year it became a fardh, he was able to perform hajj the next year. Prophet Muhammad (saw) passed away shortly after his return from this journey called "The Farewell Hajj." With the hajj he perfomed in the 10th year of hijrah, our beloved Prophet Muhammad (saw)
himself showed his ummah
how is this worship performed.
