Hajj is Purification
At the time when Mecca was conquered, pictures and idols in the Ka’bah were destroyed with the order of Prophet Muhammad (saw). Following the removal of shirk objects, the Messenger of Allah (saw) entered inside. He uttered takbir and kalimah tawheed, and prayed by putting his chest, cheek and both hands on the wall of the Ka’bah. When he stepped outside, he turned his face towards Baitullah and said: “Here is the qiblah, here is the qiblah!” (Nasa'i, Manasik Al-Hajj, 132)
Since that day, no shirk elements have been able to get inside this blessed house. With the statement of the Holy Qur’an "truth (haqq) has come, falsehood (batil) has departed." (Isra, 17/81) It is therefore a believer, who visits Baitullah and makes tawaf, exerts his/her best effort to be properly clean for this place of worship (ma'bad) with the consciousness that he/she arrived at this spotless house.
In Qur’an, it is stated that "Allah (swt) loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves." (Baqarah, 2/222) A believer knows that in order to be one of those people Allah (swt) loves, he/she has to be attentive to the cleanliness of his/her body, clothes, and environment, and is cognizant of the fact that he/she has to get rid of spiritual dirt. He/she cleans his heart from the captivity of worldly ambition and passion, selfish and sensual desires, from the invasion of evil feelings such as envy, obstinacy, grudge, and hatred just like Ka’bah’s purification from idols. Thus, he/she tends towards the spotless Baitullah, with his/her pure and clean heart.
