Huda (Guidance)
One of the characteristics of the Qur'an is that it is "huda", meaning, a life guide for believers. It can be explained as follows:
When a person comes to this world, he is like a passenger who comes to a city he does not know, to a country he is unfamiliar with. He needs a road map and guide so that he does not get lost there and encounter unexpected dangers. Likewise, a person born into the world needs a road map so that he does not go astray and get into dead-end streets. Here, the Qur'an, which warns man about possible dangers and troubles in this worldly journey, and shows him the ways of eternal salvation and happiness.
The Qur'an calls upon all people regardless of race, color, region or class. He invites people not to be ungrateful to their Lord, but to thank Him, and says:“O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous,Who created you, proportioned you, and balanced you?In whatever form He willed has He assembled you.(Infitar, 82/6-8)
Qur'an is a complete road map for believers who are devoted to it. Because it sets certain criteria in every field from belief to worship, from morality to social life. It also wants believers to live a life by abiding by these criteria.
The Qur'an points to this truth at the very beginning. Qur’an states that it is a guide book for the people who have taqwa. (Baqarah, 2/2) The more a believer is respectful to the owner of this book and submits to Him, the more the doors of knowledge and wisdom of the Qur'an are opened to him.
First of all, the Qur'an is a guide for hearts who are hungry for the truth. It helps them in their pursuit for morality and virtue, on their journey to right and truth. It widens their worldview and saves them from a narrow point of view. In this way, the horizons of knowledge and irfan broaden. They see life as a whole with its material, meaning, past and future. The Qur'an explains this feature as follows:
"And We have sent down to you the Book as clarification for all things and as guidance and mercy and good tidings for the Muslims."
(Nahl, 16/89)
