Israfil (Raphael)

Israfil's duty is to blow the "Sur" (Horn) that announces the end of the worldly life. In the Qur'an, blowing the Sur that announces the end of the world is mentioned, but the name of Israfil (as) is not mentioned. This name is clearly mentioned in hadiths: “O Allah, Lord of Jibril, Mikha'il and Israfil!”… (Muslim, Musafirin, 200)In some hadiths, the name "Owner of the Horn" is used in relation to the "Sur" that Israfil was responsible for blowing.(Ibn Hanbal, XVII, 123) Islamic scholars are in agreement that the angel responsible for blowing the Sur is Israfil.
There is no information in the verses about the nature of the Sur that Israfil will blow to announce the Doomsday. However, it is stated in various hadiths that it is in the form of a horn. Based on this, it is seen that the name "Sahib al-Qarn" is used for Israfil (as) in the sources. (Ibn Abu Shaybah, Musannaf, VI, 76)
Israfil, also known as the "Angel of Sur",  (Tabarani, Al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, IX, 114) will blow the Sur twice. At the first blow, life will come to an end for all living things, that is, the apocalypse will break. The following is stated in the Qur'an regarding this matter: “And the Horn will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will fall dead except whom Allah wills." Then it will be blown again, and at once they will be standing, looking on." (Zumar, 39/68)When the horn is blown for the second time by Israfil (as), all living things that have died will be resurrected and they will be gathered in the mahshar for judgment. This situation is expressed in the Qur'an as follows: “And the Horn will be blown; and at once from the graves to their Lord they will hasten.” (Yasin, 36/51)
