Kiraman Katibin (Hafaza Angels)
"Kiraman Katibin", which means "noble scribes", are angels in charge of recording people's words and deeds. (Güneş, Meleklere İman, p. 52) Regarding this, the following is stated in a verse: “And indeed, [appointed] over you are keepers, Noble and recording; They know whatever you do.” (Infitar, 82/10-12) These angels are also called "hafaza (guardian) angels", meaning those who observe and record the behavior of people.
The things written by the angels appear as book of deeds on the Day of Judgment. These contain every small and big deed that people commit. The Qur'an informs about this issue as follows: “And the record [of deeds] will be placed [open], and you will see the criminals fearful of that within it, and they will say, "Oh, woe to us! What is this book that leaves nothing small or great except that it has enumerated it?" And they will find what they did present [before them].65 And your Lord does injustice to no one. (Kahf, 18/49) The angel on the right of the person records the good deeds of the person, while the angel on the left writes the person's bad deeds and sins. If a person's good deeds outweigh, his book (book of deeds) is given from his right and he goes to heaven. (Haqqah, 69/19-24)If the book of deeds is given from the left (Haqqah, 69/25) or from the back, (Inshiqaq, 84/10) it means that the sins and evils of this person are outweighed.
There are various information about Kiraman Katibin in the hadiths. The following is stated in one of the hadith qudsi: “ "Allah says, 'If My slave intends to do a bad deed then (O Angels) do not write it unless he does it; if he does it, then write it as it is, but if he refrains from doing it for My Sake, then write it as a good deed (in his account). (On the other hand) if he intends to do a good deed, but does not do it, then write a good deed (in his account), and if he does it, then write it for him (in his account) as ten good deeds up to seven-hundred times.' "”(Bukhari, Tawhid, 35) In this hadith, it is said that the deeds of people are recorded, the way that Kiraman Katibin followed while writing the deeds is expressed, and people are encouraged to do good and avoid evil. (Güneş, Meleklere İman, p. 54) Almighty Allah (swt) has appointed angels to record the deeds of people. However, this does not mean that He needs angels or is unaware of what is happening. Allah (swt) knows not only the things that a person does, but also the things that pass through his mind and give him delusions. In this respect, in a verse it is said: “And We have already created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein” (Qaf, 50/16) Human, who was not created idle in the worldly life, has been tested and in this context, he is under the watchful eye of Allah (swt) at all times. Almighty Allah (swt) is the All-Aware (Habir), and the All-Knower of everything secret and open, past and future (Alim). At the same time, He is Samed. Samed, means "He who does not need anything, but everything needs Him".
