Loyalty and Honesty
Abdullah ibn Amir narrates: “My mother called me one day when the Messenger of Allah (saw) was sitting in our house. She said : Come here and I shall give you something. The Messenger of Allah (saw) asked her: What did you intend to give him? She replied: 'I intended to give him some dates.' The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: 'If you were not to give him anything, a lie would be recorded against you.’”
(Abu Dawud, Adab, 80)
Loyalty and honesty are among the most important moral values recommended by both the Qur'an and the Prophet Muhammad (saw). Allah commands “So remain on a right course as you have been commanded, [you] and those who have turned back with you [to Allah], and do not transgress.” (Hud, 11/112) and the Prophet Muhammad (saw) lived a life of honesty. There was never any inconsistency between what he said and what he did, and he kept his promises. He has not been seen to engage in negative behaviors such as deceiving people and lying. Because of this feature, he was called "Muhammad the Trustworthy". Besides being an example, he has advised and guided many people in loyalty and honesty, and by saying “Whoever deceives us is not one of us.” (Muslim, Iman, 164) He informs that any opposing quality does not befit a believer.
The most distinguishing feature of a Muslim is that he is a trustworthy, honest and sincere person. Not to deceive people, to be honest in every job, to keep promises, to protect trusts and similar qualities are among the characteristics of a moral Muslim. Almighty Allah (swt)heralds to those who can make these beautiful features a part of their character and make the principle of honesty prevail in their lives: Indeed, those who have said, "Our Lord is Allah ," and then remained on a right course - there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve. (Ahqaf, 46/13)
