Ramadan the Month of Mercy
Our Lord is merciful towards his servants, the doors of mercy are wide open during this month and He granted various gifts to the servants who put the month of Ramadan to good use. The gates of Paradise are wide open and the doors of Hell are locked during this month. It is an unique opportunity for those who want to purify themselves from sins, stay away from evil, and expiate for their mistakes. Literally, one meaning of Ramadan is “a dirt and filth cleaning rain”, and it actually cleans the black dots on people's hearts, and the evil feelings and desires hoarded within; it distances evil habits and manners; it's a barrier against sins; a promise is given not to make those mistakes again. With the month of Ramadan, our personalities and our souls will be purified, refreshed and thereby renewed. For those who benefit from every moment of this precious month, the Prophet gave the following glad tidings:
“When the first night of Ramadan comes, the devils and evil jinns are shackled, the gates of Hell are locked and none of them will be opened. The gates of Paradise are opened and none of them will be closed. Then, an angel will call out: O seeker of goodness, come to worship and serve! O seeker of evil give up your sins! For in this month, Allah frees many from the fire, and That is so every night of Ramadan.” (Tirmidhi, Sawm, 1; Ibn Majah, Sawm, 2)
