Satr al-Awrah (Covering Private Parts)
The parts that are considered awrah (private) should be covered while performing salah as well as outside the salah. According to the religion of Islam, while men are required to cover their parts between the navel and kneecaps in the presence of strangers, women are required to cover their entire body except for their hands, face and feet. Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad (saw), explained that at that time, women wore headscarves and performed salah by wearing an outfit that extended to the top of their feet. (Muwatta, Salah al-Jumu’ah, 10)
The clothes worn while performing salah should not have a transparent structure that shows the inside. In addition, wearing tight clothes that reveal the body lines, although it does not prevent the soundness of the salah, was not tolerated and more loose clothes were preferred.
