Shifa’
One of the attributes of the Qur'an is that it is shifa’ (healing) for believers. The following verse describes this feature of the Qur'an: “O mankind, there has to come to you instruction from your Lord and healing for what is in the breasts and guidance and mercy for the believers. (Yunus, 10/57)
When it comes to healing, the first thing that comes to mind is getting rid of physical and mental illnesses. But what is meant here is that people find healing from deviations in matters of faith and morality. In this sense, the Qur'an offers mankind a recipe that will save their world and the Hereafter.
The Qur’an is a healing for believers. Because, with the belief of tawhid, it removes the intermediaries in the relationship between Allah (swt) and servant, and brings people directly face to face with their Lord. Allah's door of mercy opens to anyone who wishes. He reaches out to anyone who asks for a helping hand. Thus, man is saved from submitting to mortal and helpless beings, and the following call is made to him:
“And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me.”(Baqarah, 2/186)
The Qur'an protects believers from polytheism, hypocrisy, vanity, hatred, arrogance, enmity, jealousy, ignorance, mental distress, etc. It saves man from being a slave of the worldly desires. It keeps him from falling into the trap of selfish feelings, personal ambitions and whims.
With this method, the Qur'an also paves the way for social peace and harmony. It forms the infrastructure of a virtuous society committed to the principles of rights and justice. Because a clean society is only possible thanks to people who clean themselves from bad thoughts and behaviors. Thus, the Qur'an becomes a source of shifa’ for societies as well.
