The Gospel's Affirmation of Torah

It is stated in the Qur'an that the Gospel affirms the Torah that came before it. (Ma'idah, 5/46; Saf, 61/6) All prophets were sent to convey the faith of tawhid , that is, Islam, the religion of Allah  (swt), (Ali 'Imran, 3/19) to people. Prophet Isa is a link in this chain of prophets. Since the principles of religion did not change with the change of books, the Gospel revealed to Prophet Isa is a book that affirms the Torah. The expression in the Qur'an that Allah taught Prophet Isa the Torah and the Gospel(Al-Imran, 3/48; Ma'idah, 5/110) is an indication of the continuity in the tradition of revelation.

The Gospel's affirmation of the Torah means that it affirms the main principles of religion. In other words, the Gospel contains the principles of tawhid, nubuwwah, the Hereafter, and justice, which are the basic principles of Allah's religion, and many unabrogated provisions of the Torah. Despite this unity in the basic principles of religion, the difference between the two books is about the practice of religion. As a matter of fact, Prophet Isa states in Gospel:, “Do not think that I I have come to abolish Sharia (the Law) or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” (Matthew, 5/17)

As understood from the verses of the Qur'an (Ma'idah, 5/46 - 47) , Prophet Isa had an independent sharia as well as being subject to the footsteps of the previous prophets. Therefore, until the Qur'an came, Christians had to act according to the Gospel. Their responsibilities regarding the Torah were within the framework affirmed by the Gospel. However, after the revelation of Qur'an, believers were obliged to act in obedience to it. The verse "And judge, [O Muhammad], between them by what Allah has revealed and do not follow their inclinations and beware of them, lest they tempt you away from some of what Allah has revealed to you." (Ma'idah, 5/49)expresses this point. Because over time, due to various reasons, the original of the Gospel, like the Torah, could not be preserved.
