The Immunity of Qur'an
The Divine Books that were sent to people before the Qur'an were corrupted and their originals could not be preserved. Researches on the Torah show that it could not be preserved as it revealed to the Prophet Musa (Moses). The Torah was lost many times, and then the remembered parts were rewritten and tried to be recovered. It has taken its final shape in a long historical process. In short, research have revealed that many changes were made in this book, knowingly or unknowingly. For example, in the Genesis book of the Torah, God is characterized by the ignorance, helplessness, regret, and jealousy characteristics of man, who is a helpless creature. (Genesis, 6/5-7; 33/24-30)
On the other hand, we see that there is a different understanding of the book in Christianity. According to this, no book was sent down to Prophet Isa (Jesus) from Allah (swt), on the contrary, the Prophet Isa himself was accepted as the "revelation". Therefore, the fate of the Gospel mentioned in the Qur'an is unclear.
The Gospels available today in Christianity are not accepted as the direct word of Allah (swt). On the contrary, they are accepted as the books written down by disciples like Matthew, and Mark, and their disciples, as well. These texts, which tell the life story of the Prophet Isa, were written after his death. Moreover, today we only have translations of the Gospels, not the original texts in the language in which they were originally written. These findings are also accepted by Christian researchers.
As for the Qur'an, special attention was paid to its preservation from the very beginning. Such that, the Prophet Muhammad (saw) was trying to memorize the revelation that came to Him in order not to forget it, and He was hastily repeating it. But He was informed that He should not rush and that the Qur'an would be imprinted in His memory by Allah (swt). The following verses express this: “Move not your tongue with it, [O Muhammad], to hasten with recitation of the Qur'an. Indeed, upon Us is its collection [in your heart] and [to make possible] its recitation.” (Qiyamah, 75/16-17)
Jibril did not content himself with reciting the verses to Prophet Muhammad (saw) once. In addition, Jibril came every Ramadan, and they repeated all the verses that had been revealed up to that time with the Messenger of Allah (saw). Therefore, the verses were recited with tilawa over and over with Jibril for twenty-three years, apart from their first recitation.
Special attention should be paid to the protection of Divine Books in processes such as memorization, writing and reproduction. In the Jewish and Christian traditions there is no method of protection by memorizing their books. However, the verses of the Qur'an were memorized by the Prophet Muhammad (saw) and His companions and recited over and over again in ritual prayers. Hundreds of thousands of Qur'an huffaz (memorizers) have been trained in every generation throughout history. Many of these huffaz memorized the Qur'an so well that with a few of them they were in a position to write it without looking from beginning to end.
The situation mentioned is only specific to the Qur'an unlike the previous Divine Books. Even if all the Mus'hafs are destroyed, the Qur'an is preserved in the hearts of Muslims. This situation distinguishes the Islamic ummah from others.
