The Specific Arrangement of Subjects in the Qur'an

The Qur'an was revealed verse by verse, chapter by chapter over a period of twenty-three years. However, the arrangement in the Mus'haf was not made according to the historical order. For example, the first verses of Surah al-'Alaq are the first verses that were revealed, but they are in the last part of the Qur'an. However, Surah al-Baqarah, which was revealed in the thirteenth or fourteenth years of Islam after the Hegira, is located at the beginning of the Qur'an.
Although the arrangement of the Qur'an is not chronological, it is not coincidental either. On the contrary, the order of the verses was conveyed to the Prophet Muhammad (saw) by revelation. Therefore, there is a meaningful relationship between the verses in this order. As a matter of fact, these connections have been explained by scholars in tafsirs.
The first thing that draws the attention of a person who reads the Qur'an is that it is a unique book. It is different from the books that people are used to, both in the way it handles the subjects and in the narration technique. Due to this feature, the reader may have difficulty getting used to it at first.
For example, if we were to write a book today that covers the subjects of the Qur'an, we would probably follow a different method. The subjects of creation, knowledge, religion, itiqad, worship, morality, social order, etc., contained in this book, would probably have been covered in separate chapters. But when we examine the system of the Qur'an, we encounter a different situation.
In the Qur'an, all these issues are discussed together. We see that subjects such as belief, morality, worship, creation, history, the hereafter, family, society, etc. are mentioned in the same chapter or on the same pages. Thus, the person who reads the Qur'an is as if standing in front of a rich table and can get what he needs from the wide variety of foods and nutrients offered to him. It is possible to say that this situation is related to the multifaceted nature of man. Because man is a being who has different characteristics and different tendencies at the same time. Therefore, with its mentioned feature, the Qur'an reveals a quality that responds to the different expectations of human beings.

Topics Covered by the Qur'an

The Qur'an is a book that deals with various issues that will guide man in his life in this world and in the Hereafter. One of the main purposes of the Qur'an is to give people a true consciousness of Allah (swt) based on tawhid. In order to achieve this, the Qur'an extensively covers subjects related to creation, nature and living things. Again, resurrection after death is one of the most basic messages of the Qur'an.
The Qur'an gives place to basic issues related to human happiness in the world. The details of these issues are also available in the practices of Prophet Muhammad (saw). In this respect, when investigating the proof of a religious subject, not only the Qur'an but also "sunnah" is taken into account. Of course, the issue of how scholars have understood and interpreted the Qur'an and the Sunnah from the earliest times is also very important.
The Qur'an deals with issues related to different branches of science. For example, biology, astronomy, history, society, politics, human creation, human psychology are some of them. However, the purpose of the Qur'an in addressing these issues is different. While the mentioned branches of science aim to inform people about their own fields, the Qur'an includes all these subjects in order to reach a solid belief and religious life.
