WHAT IS ADAB?

"Adab" is the Arabic word for decency, which is a word that we commonly use in our daily conversations, and it has a meaning close to the word akhlaq. Accordingly, the rules of conduct and etiquette related to various aspects of daily life such as eating, drinking, chatting, traveling, and decent, polite and admirable forms of behavior have been called “decency” or “adab.” The word “decency” has also been described as "moral behavior and good manners which have become accepted customs, traditions, and rules", and also as “delicacy and politeness, admiration and appreciation”. (Çağrıcı, "Edep", DİA) So the words "decent" and "indecent" we use in our daily conversations express moral qualities. In that case, being decent will not only lead to attaining good morals, but also to gaining both Allah's approval and people's love and appreciation.
