abstract

This brochure is about the “Farewell Sermon” (Khutbatul Wada), the last speech of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) in Mecca addressed to all Muslims in the world. This speech is a human rights declaration that includes fundamental rights and freedoms that concern all people of the world. In this sermon, which is a summary of Islam, provisions such as equality of all people regardless of race, color and class, inviolability of property and life, ending blood feuds, abolishing interest, being loyal to trusts and debts, prohibition of adultery, and respecting women's rights were declared.

The Last Prophet Muhammad’s (s.a.w) Farewell Address to Humanity (Khutbatul Wada))

Near the end of his short life, the Seal of the Prophets (s.a.w.) made a journey to Mecaa, together with many of his companions, in order to perfom pilgrimage (hajj), one of the five pillars of Islam.  On the mount of Arafat, on March 8, 632, he addressed approximately 124,000 Muslims. This was the famous farewell speech (Khutbatul Wada) delivered by the Prophet; it is very much like a universal declaration of human rights that will guide to humanity until the day of judgment.
