How do We Understand the Qur'an?
The Qur'an encourages its readers to reflect on itself. (Nisa, 4/82; Sad, 38/29) Therefore, one should not build a wall of prejudice between oneself and the Qur'an. In this case, this wall will prevent the light from the Qur'an from reaching people. As a matter of fact, Allah states that He explains His verses for those who think (Yunus, 10/24), those who use their reason (Rum, 30/28), those who understand and take advice (An'am 6/98, 126). In order to understand the Qur'an well and to benefit from its guidance, it is necessary to refer to reliable meanings and tafsirs.
