Why was the Qur'an Revealed in the Arabic Language?

The polytheists knew that the holy books before the Qur'an were revealed in Hebrew or Syriac. Thinking that the languages in question were the special languages of divine revelation, they found it strange that the Qur'an was revealed in the Arabic language. (Ibn Ashur, Tafsir al-Tahrir wa'l-Tanwir, XIII, 185) That's why it is stated in the Qur'an: “And We did not send any messenger except [speaking] in the language of his people to state clearly for them.” (Ibrahim, 14/4) Since the Prophet Muhammad (saw) was an Arab, the Qur'an that was revealed to him was also revealed in the Arabic language. However, this does not mean that it was revealed only to the Arabs and does not contradict with its universality. Because there are many verses expressing that the Qur'an was sent to all humanity. (Baqarah, 2/185; Ali 'Imran, 3/138; Saba', 34/28)
