Hamalat al-Arsh (Angels Which Carry the Arsh (Throne of Allah))
Hamalat al-Arsh means "angels carrying the Arsh". The Arsh, on the other hand, is one of the concepts whose meaning can only be known by Almighty Allah (swt) and those who have vast knowledge, and has different meanings such as "sovereignty, throne, the whole of the universe".
The angels carrying the Throne are considered to be among the most superior of the angels. At the same time, these angels were counted among the muqarrabun angels. (Radhi, Tafsir, XXVII, 487) In the Qur'an, it is reported in the verses about the Day of Judgment that the number of angels carrying the Throne is eight: “And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm. And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them].” (Haqqah, 69/16-17)
Although there is some information about Hamalat al-Arsh angels in the verses and hadiths, the numbers of these angels, their nature, what is meant by the 'Arsh' are not fully specified. Therefore, human knowledge about them is limited. In addition, the Qur'an also mentions angels praising Allah with glorification and praying for believers around the Throne, along with the angels carrying the Throne. (Mumin, 40/7)
