Mikha'il (Michael)
Another angel whose name is clearly mentioned in the Qur'an is Mikha'il. The name Mikha'il is mentioned in the Qur'an as follows: “Whoever is an enemy to Allah and His angels and His messengers and Gabriel and Mikhail - then indeed, Allah is an enemy to the disbelievers.” (Baqarah, 2/98)
Although there is no information in the verses about Mikha'il's (as) mission, some information is given in various hadiths. According to one of them, the Prophet Muhammad (saw) asked Jibril (as) about Mikha'il's mission, and he said that he was in charge of "making the rains fall and plants growing".(Ibn Abu Shaybah, Musannaf, VII, 159) Therefore, the task of managing natural events was given to Mikha'il. In addition, some scholars have stated that "livelihoods of living things" are among Mikha'il's duties.(Subki, Sharh Sunan Abu Dawud, V, 178)
While the Prophet Muhammad (saw) was praying, He would sometimes mention the name of Mikha'il along with Jibril and Israfil, saying: “O Allah, Lord of Jibril, Mikha'il and Israfil!” (Muslim, Musafirin, 200) This hadith is also important in terms of showing the virtue and value of Mikha'il (as). On the other hand, some information is included in the sources, such as the fact that Mikha'il was a commander along with Jibril in the Battle of Badr. (Ibn Hanbal, XXI, 55)
